Welcome to Garrett College! Since 1967, we have maintained a strong reputation for academic excellence, a caring and dedicated faculty, academic support services, and unique programs of study.
At Garrett College, you will find a variety of educational opportunities and an open enrollment policy that offers all students the chance to pursue higher education. Students come here to prepare to earn an Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.), Associate of Science in Engineering (A.S.E.), as well as an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree; transfer to four-year colleges and universities; earn industry-based certificates; experience hands-on learning in professional and career training programs; develop basic skills, or to learn for personal enjoyment.
Located in the mountains of western Maryland overlooking Deep Creek Lake, Garrett College is known as an affordable, public two-year college. Students have the opportunity to learn on our main campus in McHenry or at one of our other locations in Accident, Grantsville, or Oakland.
Garrett College offers nearly 40 programs of study leading to certificates and associate degrees. Programs are offered in the areas of addictions counseling, art, biology, business, cybersecurity, engineering, liberal arts, mathematics, natural resources and wildlife technology, outdoor leadership & adventure education, science, sport management, teacher education, and more. We also collaborate with regional businesses and other organizations to offer students meaningful work experience as part of their programs of study.
The college offers two residence halls on campus that allows our students to experience a rich social and extra-curricular life. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational sports in our four-season destination resort area, including skiing; boating; biking or hiking; rock climbing; or whitewater rafting. Students can participate in leadership opportunities, student clubs and organizations, and study abroad experiences while studying at Garrett College.
Garrett College fields NJCAA Division II and III athletic teams in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s baseball, men’s and women’s cross country, golf and women’s softball and volleyball, and wrestling. Garrett is a member of Region XX and the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MDJUCO).Our graduates who transfer to a four-year Maryland college or university regularly outperform their counterparts from the state’s other fifteen community colleges. Although we are the smallest, we believe we are one of the best! From our administration to faculty and staff, you will find that our people always are willing to go the extra mile in order for you to succeed.
